D.J.

Paul has been a DJ since the tender age of 18, he was actually more mature then than he is now, it all started on hospital radio, then onto working behind the scenes at BBC Radio Lancashire gaining valuable “life lessons”

A friend needed help as a mobile DJ, a good night was had….. And well, the rest is history…..

Paul worked for a number of Radio Station’s Roadshow’s throughout the UK, this involved everything from Beach Parties, Store Openings, Car Launches through to Christmas Lights ‘switch ons’ the biggest gig on Dire Straits stage to 110,000 people on the finale night of the Preston Guild, he also appeared on the same Roadshow’s as Take That, Sinitta, The Spice Girls, Clock, Strike, 911, Lindasfarne, stars of the England Rugby Team, Preston North End FC, Liverpool FC, Blackburn Rovers FC, the cast’s of Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Bread, TV presenters from Calendar & Granada TV, and many, many, many, many, many other well known people, one of the highlights was with then (hero…it’s a DJ thing) Radio1 presenter Simon Bates on the Manchester leg of the late Roy Castle Cause for hope tour. He also hosted Wigan RFL’s homecoming three years running to crowds in excess of 30,000 on Wigan’s Central Park.

The bosses at the Radio stations quickly sussed Paul had the perfect face for radio and decided he should also have his own radio show, he presented shows for Red Rose Gold, Magic 999, 2BR, The Bee and The Burn and hosted every show they could throw at him including DRIVETIME, LUNCHTIMES & THE BREAKFAST SHOW. Paul who is an EMAP Radio Award winner went on to present with Britain’s leading medium JAMES BYRNE, and was live ‘on air’ at Red Rose Radio during the unfolding Media frenzy of the Manchester City Centre Bomb.

As a mobile DJ Paul has worked all over the country, even packaged off to the Isle of Man for someone’s party, the bad news, they paid for his ferry back home, he worked for 1 st leisure and hosted the VIP opening night of Utopia with pop legend Edwin Star, Ant ‘n’ Dec’s Manager hired Paul to DJ for his Wedding to a room full of Celebrities and he’s been lucky enough to DJ to many well known familiar faces throughout the North West establishing himself as one of the UK’s top personality DJ’s.

CANCER RESEARCH’s RACE FOR LIFE

Paul is Commentator/DJ for the Race for Life events across Lancashire, Yorkshire & Cumbria. Each race consists of anywhere between 1500 and 8000 females (Paul says, “it’s tough, but someone’s gotta do it, who say’s I ain’t got the best job in the world”) this involves entertaining the audience with the warm up and commentary throughout the race, Paul has enjoyed on stage the company of the actresses from the film “The Calendar Girls” - “Emmerdale Cast” - “England football Ladies Goalie Rachel Brown” – “Nell McAndrew”….. and appeared on the gigs with radio stations Stray FM, Fresh AM, The Bay – Radio Wave and Century FM.

Paul say’s

  • I can DJ anything from a Kids party, through to a Golden Wedding, it’s all about being able to read the audience, the capability to deliver, and giving it all you’ve got.
  • If it’s a kid’s gig, talk like a kid, act like a kid, kids games, kid’s prizes, etc, etc
  • I’m a million % committed to every gig and this is how I see a typical evening/wedding/birthday/etc would go
  • We obviously arrive and greet the guests with background music….
  • Once there’s enough people in the room what we do is have a good lark around with everyone, a real good two way interaction with the audience and let them know we’re there, nothing tacky, nothing embarrassing, nothing too raunchy (unfortunately). In fact nothing which can’t be enjoyed by an 8 or 80 year old. As much as we’d like too…..we don’t have young ladies running around naked. (there’s time yet though)
  • The reason for the fun is, as well as setting us apart from the rest is… Nobody ever dances before the food, it’s an unwritten rule, until they’ve had a few beers and a bite to eat… THEY AIN’T GONNA DANCE, so rather than having them sat around twiddling their thumbs, we get them involved having a party, how often do you hear guests saying “The party never got going till really late on”….. THEY DON’T LEAVE MY GIGS SAYIN THAT
  • We give out loads of spot prizes including Bottles of Bubbly, well if that’s what you can call it. I think it’s safe to say it’s like GNAT’s PEE in a bottle…but it’s FREE..
  • I WON’T SAY EXACTLY WHAT WE DO FOR OUR BIT’s OF FUN HERE, OTHER DJ’s READ THIS
  • We play some background music during the buffet, after which we get the formalities out the way, speeches, cakes, Happy Birthday sing-a-long (led by me of course) 1 st dance....then
  • It’s lights off, flashing lights on, time for all the ugly ones to go and get a dance to music which to sum up is…. Anything from Rock ‘n’ Roll through to the charts, we do a bit for everyone, but obviously it’s our job to read the crowd
  • END OF THE NIGHT – Everybody falls over and collapses in a drunken happy pile…..

SOME OF PAUL’s GOLDENS RULES (Gosh, it’s like Jerry Springer on tour)

  • I cannot start to tell you how lucky I am to do what I do, and enjoy the success I have, this job is a job you just have to LOVE to be able to do it properly, I cannot wait for my next gig, I have more enthusiasm now than ever about what I do, I get such a kick out my job it’s unbelievable, plus the wages are pants…..whether it’s working to a room of 300 on a Wedding, or 30 from a Charitable organisation, the genuine THANKS at the end of the night is PRICELESS
  • A DJ is gonna MAKE or BREAK your night full stop, there is NO such thing as A GOOD CHEAP DJ, they don’t exist…. If they’re cheap, they’re cheap for a reason. If they DO TURN UP, you’ll wish they hadn’t. The DJ is the ONE thing you should never compromise on, guests will talk for years about your DJ… NOT your Mushroom Vol-a-vonts. One of the funniest things I’ve seen recently is another fellow DJ advertising himself on a dating site….Now, there’s a confident DJ for ya..ha-ha (you know who you are)
  • You give me a Good Crowd, I guarantee I’ll make em a better crowd, give me a bad crowd, we’re snookered, and we all have to do then is ring around quick for RENT-A-CROWD

MY ADVICE IS FREE …… We’ve had organisations, companies, families, schools, clubs, hotels use us year after year, time after time, we’ve even DJ’d at people’s 2 nd wedding, (obviously never liked it the first time around) If there’s anything you want to know, call me, I don’t bite, just nibble every now & again
